Best Restaurant Marty Had Never Heard Of! - Feast@4East (Mt. Vernon)
Even with all the time he spends in Mt. Vernon, Marty didn't have a clue that "Feast@4East" existed. When John suggested eating there, he had dubious expectations, BUT the classy small dining room, attentive service and tasty food changed all that and we've been introducing our friends to the aptly named “Feast” ever since!
Best Place to Eat Before or After "The Charles"! - Joe Squared (Penn North)
Joe's delivers great square pizza, wonderful sandwiches and tasty fresh salads (and provides live music with no cover after 10 p.m. on most nights!) It’s well worth the short two block walk from "The Charles".
Best Indian Luncheon Buffet! - Mughal Garden (Mt. Vernon)
The 20+ foot long "all you can eat" luncheon buffet with memorable Indian food costs just $8.95 on weekdays. What a bargain! (Runner up: The Mango Grove - Columbia)
Best Salad Bar! - Ruby Tuesday’s (Charles Village)
The all you can eat “Garden Bar” is longer than John's Hybrid Camry and has enough good stuff to make a satisfying meal out of it for vegetarians or omnivores!. (Runner up for best entrée salads: Flying Avocado - Owings Mills)
Best Home-Made Chips! - Alexander's Tavern (Fells Point)
Alexander's home made chips are darn good to start with and border on memorably awesome when you add the optional house or "Old Bay" seasoning on top! (And they're free with any sandwich, wrap or slider order!)
Best Touting of a "DiningOUT" review! - Ciao Pizza Bistro (Greenspring)
"Ciao" is the only restaurant that we've reviewed that has included our full review on their web site as well as crediting us AND acknowledging that the review was published in Baltimore GayLife! (Runner up: "Mother's Grill" on Federal Hill published our review on their website and credited our authorship, but discreetly left out the fact that our reviews are published in Gay Life!)
Best Restaurant to Celebrate a Special Birthday! - Oceanaire (Harbor East)
With great seafood, a special b-day menu printed just for you, and a complementary b-day Baked Alaska for dessert set which is set aflame in front of you, this is one heck of a place to celebrate a b-day! (Runner up: Fogo De Chao – Inner Harbor)
Best “all you can eat” bargain! - Cici’s (Catonsville)
So maybe the pizza isn't as good as the pizza at Joe Squared or Iggie's or even Papa John’s, but where else can you get an "all-you-can-eat” pizza and salad buffet for dinner for just $6.95? (Runner up: China Best Buffet – Glen Burnie)
Best Marty “Palm Reading”! - Patrick's (Cockeysville)
It all started when Marty was in the middle of a particularly "touchy" reading with a 20 y/o waiter. The maitre'd (who turned out to be the waiter's father! Yikes!) suddenly stood behind his son listening to Marty’s palm reading (which came to a quick end <Wink!>) and requested his own palm reading. Marty somehow improvised a “reading” for the waiter’s dad that for once didn’t predict that the palm owner would become involved with a 70+ y/o erstwhile gypsy! <Grin>
Best New Restaurant! - Marie Louise Bistro (Mt Vernon)
Marie Louise & her new bistro in its handsome new two-story space with some very good food emerged from the remains of long gone Gampy's and earned our kudos (Runner up: Zacchi's Cafe - Mt. Vernon)
Best Grape Leaves! - Sunshine Grille (Fork)
The grape leaves are the best that John has tasted anywhere in greater Baltimore. With the number of Greek restaurants in “Greektown” plummeting, the mix of Greek food and diner favorites make Sunshine Grille a good place to know about. (Yes, there really is a place called "Fork”; it's just a few miles north of the Beltway on Harford Road.)
Best Outdoor Dining Spot! - Stone Mill Bakery (Lutherville)
On a nice warm, sunny day, the outdoor patio of the Stone Mill Bakery, which is enclosed with Leyland Cypresses and enhanced with some eye-catching modern sculptures, combined with excellent sandwiches, salads, soups and awesomely good bread is a pleasant place to be! (Runner ups: DuClaw’s patio - Fells Point and Donna's patio - Cross Keys)
