“In the past year, we have made significant progress toward setting the center on a new course that is consistent with the needs of the community,” said McCarthy. “My intention is to provide continuity of leadership and work with the rest of the board to continue the progress we’ve begun.”
McCarthy said the board is looking for additional board members, especially lesbians, to help meet this goal.
“I feel that it is important that we put more focus on outreach to the lesbian community, as there is a misnomer [sic] that the GLCCB does not provide them with opportunities and programming,” he explained. “[W]e have both lesbian focused and general interest programming that would be of interest [to the lesbian community], and I believe there is simply an issue of effectively communicating that to the larger community. I greatly hope to find some lesbians who would be willing to lend their talents to the organization as members of the board, as I believe they would be the most able to effectively bridge this connectivity gap.”
