Gay MarriageThinking about the recent comments of Delegate Burns about same sex marriages being considered bad policy, economically, socially, and educationally, I recall an essay I wrote in response to an article I read on gay marriage. In the essay the author had presented as the principal issue that marriage is harmed by anything that diminishes its privileged status. The author made the claim that allowing two men or two women to marry would be redefining marriage and making a bad situation even worse. Contending that the marriage institution has been weakened by the sexual revolution, legalized abortion, and the acceptance of cohabitation; and is now further threatened by homosexuals and their desire to legally marry.
