IDKE XII will be hosted by the Baltimore Gender Justice Collective (BGJC), a group of dedicated and multi-faceted individuals passionate about celebrating and sustaining gender performance culture. BGJC believes in an IDKE that will facilitate the gender performance community to examine the intersections between gender performance, personal responsibility and privilege with the goal of creating a platform to expand performance into a viable connection with all social justice communities.

TEA TIME
AIDS ACTION Baltimore’s TEA TIME (Transpeople Empowerment in Action) provides a safe space for transgender people to openly discuss their life concerns without fear of discrimination or harassment. The name “TEA TIME” hails from an early twentieth-century tradition among some transgender and drag communities, who hosted tea parties or dances as safe non-sexual venues to gather and express sisterhood, and to make important peer-networking connections.

In keeping with this tradition, the program provides group/individual level interventions, and outreach services to the transgender community. The group level intervention gives participants an opportunity to openly network with fellow transgender people in a safe environment. These groups are geared to promote HIV Prevention while addressing social and political issues. Furthermore, sessions are both educational and entertaining.

Secondly, the individual level interventions allow participants to work together with a counselor in resolving personal problems, and receive needed medical and social referrals to culturally competent programs. This service is administered in a fully confidential space.

Lastly, outreach services deliver HIV prevention messages to the transgendered community. This healthcare service is given without personal biases, judgment, or lecture.

AIDS ACTION Baltimore welcomes you to join them for TEA TIME (10 E. Eager Street, Baltimore Maryland 21201) and encourages you to take care, and remember that you are loved. For additional information, call 410-837-5573.

Trans-United
Founded by Sandy Rawls, Trans-United seeks to improve the quality of life and health of transgender individuals while fostering acceptance and respect. Trans-United serves the community through advocacy efforts and by offering accommodating supportive resources. Members of the organization prioritize realities of health, social service and justice above and beyond all other transgender issues. By pursuing its mission, Trans-United hopes to not only unify transgender people under the umbrella of civil life, but also issue a call for all of humanity to unify with the objective of enhancing the civil and human rights of all transgender people.

Trans-United has been airing on Comcast Public Access Television Channel 75 every Monday at 11:00 pm. THE B-MORE TRANS SHOW, with Sandy Rawls as its host, is a 30-minute public awareness program educating the community about transgender issues. On October 27, 2009, Rawls was nominated by the Mayor and confirmed by the Baltimore City Council to serve on the Baltimore City HIV/AIDS Commission. Rawls said that she “plans to use the opportunity to bring about change…to benefit all communities regardless of gender, race or economic status.”
