This is the second in a series of three articles on drunken driving arrests. The first article in the June 11, - June 24, 2010 issue of Gay Life focused on the court aspect of these cases. In this article, I will focus on the MVA aspects of breatholizer tests. The next article will focus on MVA hearings after DWI convictions.

When you wish…

“Now blow out the candles!” You can picture the scene - the birthday boy or gal takes a big breath in, draw in the wish and then force out the breath to blow out the candles. It makes for a good picture and lots of fun if all the candles don’t all go out in one blow.

Months after the steak knife incident, in 2005, officers from the education department and the Social Security Administration showed up at my front door unannounced and there began a long process of investigation and much suffering on my part. This was the first time I heard about the allegations: as these two men questioned me they used intimidation tactics, including the threat of arrest if I didn’t confess right there and then.

This weekend we celebrate July 4 with rounds of festivities marking our nation’s 234 years of independence. But this country’s need to showcase her indomitable spirit of heroism continues to come at the expense of basic freedoms and protections denied to us lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) Americans.

I confess I have been a bit football mad during World Cup month. I wouldn’t call myself a huge regular fan and I certainly can’t play the game. But I admire the passion, the technical skill, the almost insane athleticism of the players – each man plays both offense and defense the entire game.

       alt="brandon - andy file" border="0" align="left" hspace="15" />

Growing up, most girls are taught that boys don't cry. Boys get picked on if they show emotions and/or fear. It's generally thought of as being emasculating to cry and show or talk about your emotions. This frame of thinking does not go away when we grow up, In fact, it get stronger and is reinforced by the Patriarchy of our society. There are too many stories of men getting beat up and/or killed because they were effeminate.

       alt="Rev Irene Monroe" border="0" align="left" hspace="15" />

Last week, with a vote of 230 to 191, the House of Representatives passed to repeal former President Bill Clinton’s 1993 “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell (DADT)” policy that bars lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) service members from the military. On the same day the House passed to repeal DADT, so to did the Senate Armed Services Committee.

For just a moment we’re gonna not focus on ya’ll, my reading public, or discuss the splendor of my gay constituents but rather we’re gonna talk about me and my needs since ultimately my needs are an amalgam of everyone else’s and I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s looking for whatever it is I’m looking for.

I must concede the unbeknownst truth, there are indeed sexy men living in Baltimore, now whether or not any of them are worth talking to is an entirely different story. For each of us there is a time when we must ask ourselves, “What’s most important, that a guy is hot enough to illicit the desire and jealousy of our peers and competitors or that he is capable of meeting our mental and emotional needs?”

       alt="Brandon Riley" border="0" align="left" hspace="15" />

A few years ago, I found myself in a real bind, (Trannypun fully intended). After getting out of a bad relationship I found myself without a home, and no where to go. My van became my home, complete with a mattress and 5 blankets in the back. Granted this was a 1985 work van, not some luxury van with any type of insulation. Not exactly the best place to be during ice storms in the middle of February. After a few weeks of this arrangement, I woke up one morning literally with icicles in my beard. My van's alternate heater died during the night and I had enough.

“You’re not on this airline, you are on United,” was the first sentence that I heard when I started my vacation to Asia. With sleepy eyes, carrying a suitcase full of clothes and computer bag, I seemed dazed and confused at 5AM while roaming BWI airport trying to discover which airline carrier I selected. I was gearing up for a long flight, that included 2 hours to Chicago, 14 hours to Hong Kong, and 3 hours to Singapore—not to mention layovers.
