Cute Cubbie Holes…Cruel IntentionsHow many of us remember a time when our only concerns were who could jump the highest or run the fastest? When going to bed was a punishment and getting up wasn’t a chore? My grandma calls them “the good ol’ days”. I call them, the days when things were simple—a time when all my prized possessions it into my “cubbie hole”. Remember cubbie holes? Those cute little 5x4 bins with the shoebox size sections inside where you and all you classmates put your hats and gloves after recess.

The “Massive” MassesI often sit and wonder about religion, usually after someone I love hurts me in its name. I wonder about its purpose its origin, its true form and, sometimes, I even wonder if God has anything to do with any of it. I remember sitting in church with my aunt (about 3 yrs ago) and listening to the minister. He spoke of “healing” from debt, poverty and personal affliction; and with the rise and fall of his voice over these words, I almost felt obligated to place a dollar in the offering plate each time it passed my pew. His performance was almost theatrical—full of lighting cues and dramatic pauses, I almost forgot where I was, until… he began to speak on personal affliction. I thought that this part of the sermon would be about disease or disorder, but I was wrong.

Coming From Where I’m FromOn Aug.11, during a routine walk, my 5-year-old pit pull terrier (Duchess) was attacked by a dog twice her size. Terrified, as the dog approached us, I attempted to pick Duchess up and run away, but, before I could lift her, the dog locked its jaws around her neck and shook her out of my arms. I yelled and Screamed until no sounds came from mouth.
