2021’s Greatest Science Talent: “It’s Not a 9 to 5 Job’

The greatest scientific talent is known to the Netherlands and Flanders. Evolutionary ecologist Edwin Boss has been elected New Scientist Science Talent 2021.

The award is given annually by New Scientist magazine. Editor-in-chief Jim Jansen confirmed the commitment of the candidates. “You can actually see this award as a reward for a very long and hard research. It’s not a 9-5 job. If you’re into science, you’ll be there all weekend, in the evening, during Sinterklaas, you name it,” Jansen told WNL .

A bridge between science and society

According to the award winner, communication about scientific research to society is of great importance. “I think bridging the gap between science, basic science and society is also a very important part. This award also gives you the opportunity to talk about that.”

Pos received the award, among others, for his interdisciplinary research approach. It collects data on rare species in the Amazon rainforest and interprets it using sophisticated mathematical techniques.
