America secretly negotiates with Russia and Kyiv receives anti-aircraft fire | Currently

The Americans are secretly negotiating with Russia to ease tensions over the possible use of nuclear weapons in Ukraine. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan confirmed Tuesday that both countries are keeping “channels of communication” open after sending out the reports The Wall Street Journal.

Communication should reduce the risk of nuclear conflict. Moscow recently raised the issue of the use of nuclear weapons and the so-called dirty bombs. The Kremlin claimed that Ukraine would produce the radioactively contaminated bombs, but provided no evidence.

The International Atomic Energy Agency has already refuted this claim. There is no evidence for this. Kyiv suspects that Russia is making accusations so that it can use nuclear weapons itself.

“We know who we are at the negotiating table,” Sullivan said. “But it is also in the interests of the United States that we continue to communicate.”

Kyiv receives air defense systems

In the meantime, the government in Kyiv can expect more and more anti-aircraft fire. Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov on Monday announced the arrival of the NASAMS and Aspide air defense systems from Norway, Spain and the United States. Last month, the country had already received Iris-T defense systems from Germany. Kyiv will soon receive almost a hundred tanks from the Netherlands, the United States and the Czech Republic.

Recent Russian missile and aircraft attacks have destroyed a third of Ukraine’s power plants, as winter approaches. The government urges residents to save as much electricity as possible.

According to the authorities in the capital, Kyiv, the situation remains tense, especially during peak hours. They called on the population to join the fight “on the energy front”. Earlier, Kyiv described the Russian attacks on the two stations as “energy terrorism”.
