Early this morning (Dutch time) several major hurricanes passed over a part of the United States. There will be 19 hurricanes in total. Consequence: Great destruction and many casualties. See pictures below:
Kentucky Governor Andy Bessier has declared a state of emergency in his state and called on Washington to help. He talks about the worst hurricane ever to hit his state.
President Joe Biden tweeted this afternoon that the hurricane had caused unimaginable tragedy in the region. Promised to do all the necessary assistance.
Rainier van den Berg, meteorologist Rain Radar, Talks about extreme weather. “19 hurricane eruptions. It happens often, but it’s in the spring. Such eruptions in December are exceptional.”
On average, December is the month with the fewest hurricanes, Van Den Berg explains. “But tonight all parts of the puzzle for these extreme conditions fell into place.”
The hurricane left a trail of devastation in the states of Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi and Missouri. There have been reports of damage and people trapped in buildings from all these states.
Many buildings were demolished
The roof of a candle factory in Mayfield, Kentucky, was previously reported to have collapsed due to the storm. Local media reported that there were more than 100 people in the building and that they may have died. 70 people are missing. According to Pesher, it would be a “miracle” if anyone was found alive there.
In the Amazon warehouse in Edwardsville, Illinois, an unidentified number of people have been buried as a part of the building collapsed as a hurricane tore the roof of the building. It is unknown how many more people are trapped in the warehouse. The lives of tens of thousands of people are in danger here too.
Earlier today, the US Meteorological Agency said 55 million Americans had been affected by the storm. Several images of the damage are being shared on social media:
