AZ offers Australian goalkeeper Ryan

Matthew Ryan is AZ’s new goalkeeper. The thirty-year-old goalkeeper of the Australian national team arrived from FC Copenhagen and signed a contract until the summer of 2024. The 79-time international is the club’s second winter signing from Alkmaar after Djordje Mihajlovic.

Ryan saved Australia’s goal at the World Cup in Qatar. He previously played in Europe for Club Brugge, Valencia, RC Genk, Brighton & Hove Albion, Arsenal and Real Sociedad. He is not yet eligible to play. AZ has applied for a work permit for him.

“You only have to look at the club and its history to know it’s a good and ambitious club,” Ryan told the AZ website. “There is a lot to play for and I dream of reaching the highest heights together with the team.”

According to Director of Football Affairs Max Huiberts, Ryan is the perfect keeper for AZ. “He’s shown that he’s good at different positions and was our leading candidate from the start. We were looking for someone who would be available immediately when he’s fit and he is. Everything fits the picture in that regard.”

Hobie Verhulst is currently AZ’s first goalkeeper.
