The road to the Olympics in Paris began tonight for Buck Peters (20) in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic. There he begins his mountain bike campaign, which for the time being is more important than his life on the road. ,, I’ve set the Games as a big target that doesn’t leave much room for racing on the road.
Laura Stiger is very strong in Nevo Mesto. Acceleration on the last lap was enough to overtake Austrian champion Alessandra Keller, Sina Frei and Pauline Ferrand-Prevot.
Anne Tauber finished eighth behind Peters. Anne Terpstra, who missed out on an overall win in last year’s World Cup classification, finished thirteenth. The result of the short race also determines the starting point for Sunday’s cross-country race.
Milan Vedder is back at number 37
In his first World Cup match since September 2021, Milan Vedder finished 37th. The 27-year-old Middleburger has been in an artificial coma since April 2022 after a serious fall during the Tour of the Basque Country and has had to undergo a lengthy rehabilitation.
Victory went to Olympic champion Thomas Pitcock, second in Liège-Bastogne-Liège a few weeks ago and third in the Amstel Gold Race on the road. Brit of Inos won for world champion Samuel Case of New Zealand and Luca Schwarzbauer of Germany.
The World Cup events, including those in Nové Mesto, count towards qualification for next year’s Olympic Games in Paris.
