UpdateThe United States will defend Taiwan if that country is attacked by China. US President Joe Biden said during an interview with CNN that he feels “compelled” to do so. China is not affected.
The ruling shows that US policy is changing, with Washington in the past helping Taiwan build its defenses, but never explicitly pledging aid to the island.
Taiwan is considered a breakaway province by the communist regime in Beijing. Tensions between the two countries escalated sharply in the past month, in part because Chinese military aircraft have flown through Taiwan’s airspace for days on end.
Taiwan’s Defense Minister, Chiu Kuo-cheng, said military tensions are at their worst level in more than 40 years.

China is unaffected by Biden’s rhetoric. Wang Wenbin said, “The United States should be careful in its words and actions on the Taiwan issue and not send false signals to the Taiwan separatist forces, so as not to seriously damage Sino-US relations and peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman.
Wang asserts that Taiwan is simply part of the territory of China. This is a purely internal matter of China, and does not allow foreign interference. When it comes to issues related to China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, there is no room for compromise or concessions.”
