After a two-year hiatus, the World Tour Peloton Tour Down Under will return to Australia in 2023. The route for the stage race has already been announced. Unlike previous years, the round will begin with a prologue. Additionally, the race does not finish at Mount Willunga, but at Mount Lofty.

The Tour Down Under will begin next year with a prologue, a 5.5km individual time trial through Adelaide. This is the first time that a race against the clock has been added to the course of the Australian Tour. Willunga Hill is no longer the setting for the final round. The climb was a standard value in the route book, but this time we opted for an uphill finish at the summit of Mount Lofty.

“The course is designed to test our riders like never before, while putting the fans right in the middle of the action,” said race director and former pro Stuart O’Grady. “The Tour Down Under opens with an exciting new time trial. The prologue in Adelaide is a first for the event. Other firsts include a strong finish at Mount Lofty and a beautiful stage start at Brighton Beach.

Also, the organization proudly announced that the race has secured a spot on the World Tour for the next three years. UCI president David Lapartient is delighted to have Down Under back on the calendar. “After two years in a row of cancellations due to the coronavirus pandemic, the race will once again serve as the opening event of the World Tour – cementing its position among the series’ most prestigious races in the world.”
