Dozens arrested for electoral fraud in Brazil on the eve of elections | Abroad

Dozens of people were arrested in Brazil ahead of Sunday’s elections on suspicion of involvement in electoral fraud. According to the Minister of Justice, 34 people have been arrested.

About 3 million riyals, or about 500,000 euros, were confiscated during the police operation. The suspects wanted to influence the elections, for example, by buying votes.

Brazilians will vote in the first round on Sunday on whether incumbent President Jair Bolsonaro will be granted another term. His biggest opponent, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, is leading in the polls and could even claim victory in the first round.

Bolsonaro has repeatedly indicated that he will not accept the loss. He has said many times that the electoral system is subject to fraud and therefore the outcome may not be reliable.
