The fire broke out on Monday in an area where many technology companies are located in the city of Anyang. More than sixty firefighters and two hundred rescue workers were deployed to fight the fire. It took until 11 PM (local time) for the fire to be completely extinguished. According to Chinese state broadcaster CCTV, the deaths of the victims were announced on Tuesday morning.

The cause of the fire is not yet known. According to local authorities, the Public Security Service has suspects in the photo.

Industrial accidents are a regular occurrence in China, where safety regulations are often poorly adhered to. For example, in March 2019, an explosion at a chemical plant killed 78 people and injured hundreds.

In October 2007, at least 37 people died in a similar fire in an illegal shoe factory in Hoshi, Fujian Province, China. The police later arrested the owner of the factory.
