Eindhoven’s premier amateur golf tournament enjoys a growing position in Europe | Valkensward, and irrigation

Falkensward – Eindhovenci Golf Club will host the Dutch Amateur Championship (DAC) from August 11-13, along with the Royal Netherlands Golf Association. The event will take place in Falkensward for the 22nd time this year and is growing in popularity in the world of golf.

“Our ambition is to continue to develop the tournament. This is why Eindhovenci Golf Club, the Royal Netherlands Golf Federation and the European Golf Federation are working closely together to raise awareness of the Dutch Amateur Championship on the international amateur golf arena.” Angèle Willems is the president of the Senior Amateur Championships and the sporting showdown at Valkenswaard has seen a huge increase in importance over the past two decades.

„What started out as a club tournament and was called at the time the Brabants Open, has grown into the premier Dutch amateur tournament. Growth was steady with one Belgian and German participating, after which more and more other European players came forward. The field of participants now consists of golfers from countries such as Japan, Switzerland, India, Italy and Malaysia. We’ve grown from two days to a three-day championship and in 2023 there could be four.”

This year, 135 men and women participated. The maximum capacity is 144. Simone Collijn is a Scout and also takes care of public relations. Sports have become more accessible to more people in recent years. Hardly anyone associates golf with boredom anymore, and more and more people are dealing with it. Children start at an early age. Of course it offers them an attractive program. Fun always comes first. In the meantime, they are introduced to all aspects of golf in a fun and challenging way. The youngest participant in this tournament is 12 years old.”

David van de Sanden (25 years old) is also a Scout and also responsible for communication. As a young boy, he quickly got the right golf grip at Eindhovensche Golf and now knows the world of players like no other. It keeps the world informed about the Dutch Amateur Championship through various communication channels, such as Instagram and Facebook. This year’s tournament was given an extra experience: “With the help of an app on their phone, participants record their scores during the match. They are instantly scrolled and processed on the leaderboard, which is therefore always up-to-date. The audience and other players can follow the standings right away. After all, we’re part From the Braineport area for a reason,” he says with a laugh.

About 125 volunteers contribute to the event’s success these days: the “observers” indicate to the participants where the ball has landed, there is a set-up and disassembly team and a graphics team that takes photos and videos. The public is welcome. Willems: “The place is very comfortable, we don’t charge for the entrance and on our balcony you not only have a nice overview, but you can also meet other lovers.”
