FNP: Dam improvement Wierum and Vlieland: Is there a double standard here?

The party puts questions about this to the mayor of Nordist-Frieslin and an alderman.

The Dagblad van het Noorden newspaper of January 5 states that dam improvement in Vlieland may continue, Koonstra spokesperson wrote in a letter to the mayor and member of Parliament. Rijkswaterstaat will expand the sea dam by 7 to 10 meters in the Wadden Sea. One hectare of mud and sand flats will disappear. The minister does not think this is a problem, according to Konstra. It is only a small part of the Wadden Sea.

There are also concrete plans to strengthen the seawall at Noardeast-Fryslân. Expanding the sea wall will claim part of the village of Wirum. The part and remains of the old harbor in Werum will disappear and a wall can be built in the village.

“Do not rule out demolition”

Executive Board Chairman Bé de Winter said a few months ago at a water board meeting that Wetterskip Fryslân could not guarantee that no buildings would be demolished due to the dam’s breadth. Other members of the Water Board have criticized the way the Water Board is handling the situation in Werum, although no concrete plans have been announced so far.

At this meeting, the Water Board Executive Board also said there was room for expansion beyond dams in Moddergat, but not in Wierum. At Moddergat, things will be different when it comes to space.

destroyed village

The FNP now wonders how much space is available to avoid a devastated village. According to the party, this is the case in Wierum and to a lesser extent also in the houses just behind the sea levee on Het Schoor near Ternaard.
