For the first time, an Apple Store in the US gets union representation – Companies

The majority of employees at an Apple Store in the US voted to form a union, the first for the tech giant that has so far tried to discourage unionization attempts.

Of the 110 store employees in Townson, Maryland, 65 voted for and 33 against. The count was broadcast live by the federal agency that oversaw the vote.

As in other chains, there is dissatisfaction with wages, longevity and (lack of) protection from the coronavirus.

According to the union, New York timesIn addition, employees of about 25 other Apple Stores (out of a total of more than 270) have expressed interest in forming unions.

Apple is the third anti-union giant that has been unable to rein in unions lately. First, in December 2021, workers at Starbucks in Buffalo succeeded in setting up a union. Meanwhile, there is union representation for more than 100 Starbucks stores in the United States.

The distribution giant followed up with Amazon on the 1st of April this year. The distribution center in Staten Island, New York, with more than 8,000 employees, chose an independent consortium.
