Hamilton loves Indycar testing: “It’s always good to try new things”

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton currently has an expired contract with his team. The Briton has expressed his intention to just extend his contract and doesn’t seem like he wants to leave Formula 1. However, Hamilton is also a fan of other classes and would therefore be open to a test round at Indycar.

Hamilton has stated several times that he wants to remain active in Formula 1 and that he does not want to race in another category. The seven-time world champion wants to remain active at Mercedes and continue his dream of an eighth world title in the sport. However, he does hint that he enjoys other racing classes in the US, eg.

NASCAR

Hamilton, for example, sees former teammates Kimi Räikkönen and Jenson Button in action in NASCAR. Motorsport.com quotes Hamilton: “A few years ago I swapped cars with Tony Stewart, I really enjoyed it. At some point I’d like to try it. I don’t really dream about it, but I’m a big fan of racing so I always like to try new things.” .

IndyCar

Hamilton also notes that he enjoys laps in other vehicles. For example, in addition to Stewart’s NASCAR, he has also participated in the Valentino Rossi MotoGP car. So Hamilton would like to drive a similar course again: “Sometimes I look at Indycar. I think it would be nice to drive such a car one day. I would like to drive a car of the older generation who want to drive because I’m not a fan of the windshield.”
