Sivan Hassan will play her first game of the season in Portland, USA on Friday. At 5km, the Olympic champion is preparing for the World Championships in Athletics, which begins next week.

Hassan’s management confirmed their participation on Friday after news from the athletics website Letsrun.com† For a long time it seemed like Hassan would only play her first game of the season at the World Championships in Eugene, USA.

Hassan initially wanted her June season opener at FBK Games, but she refused. She also skipped the Diamond League in Eugene to put more energy into her training sessions. Hassan decided to prepare for the World Cup in the United States.

The 29-year-old took a long break after last year’s Olympic Games in Tokyo, where she won gold in the 5000 and 10,000 meters and bronze in the 1,500 metres. As a result, I started training later and didn’t compete.

Her coach Tim Robery told Letsrun.com that Hassan is not planning to run 1,500, 5,000 and 10,000 meters at the World Cup. After the weekend, the distances Hassan will take will be decided.

Hassan won the world titles in the 1500 and 10,000 meters at the last World Cup in 2019. The tournament will be held in Eugene from July 15-24.
