RUURLO – “Kom Klootschiet” is the title of a recruitment drive for new members, started by Dutchman Klootschietbond. Because although this unique sport is still alive and kicking in the east of our country with many (youth) associations and competitions, the federation wants to attract more young people who are passionate about curling.
“Klootshooting is the oldest sport in the Netherlands and it is not surprising that it is still very popular,” say the highly successful Ruurlose Suzan and Patrick Zieverink of Ruurlo’s shooting club ‘t Broek. The brother and sister have already achieved many successes in Dutch and international archery and both love to defend their beloved sport. “It is a sport that players of all ages can play all year round and enjoy the great outdoors in nature. Add to that a good dose of strength, technique and agility and you have a very fun sport that is in no way inferior to volleyball, handball or football. However These are the sports that children and parents usually think of first when children are allowed to choose a sport,” says Susan Zivrink.
This is why the Dutch club Klootschietbond started the “Kom Klootschiet” campaign. Including own websites and social media channels. Patrick Ziverink: “The majority of Dutch klootschieters associations are listed on the accompanying website. They participate in Kom Klootschietdagen on March 31st and April 1st and 2nd.”
During those days, kids can participate in klootshooting training without obligation. For example, NKB is trying to interest young people in sports in an accessible way. “We have full confidence in that. Enjoy being outside with friends. Besides, the chance of a championship is many times greater than in the sports listed above. I’d like to know,” says Susan Zevrink.
