Disney is moving all of the Marvel series made for Netflix several years ago to its own service, Disney+. It is not yet known when this will happen in the Netherlands.
The series Daredevil, Jessica Jones, The Punisher, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders recently disappeared from Netflix. Now it’s clear why: starting March 16, this series will be shown on Disney+ in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. variety† Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD ABC series will also head in this direction.
The series has also not been available for some time in the Netherlands via Netflix, but it’s not clear when they will go to the Dutch version of Disney’s streaming service. The switch is happening now because the rights to the series are back in Disney’s hands.
Series since 2015
Netflix has been producing its own TV series based on Marvel heroes since 2015. Disney didn’t have its own streaming service or big TV plans at the time.
That changed with the introduction of Disney+ two years ago. Meanwhile, the Star Wars and Marvel-based specials are the service’s big temptation.
With the return of this series, so are the characters. Charlie Cox, who played Daredevil on the series of the same name, returned last year in Marvel’s Spider-Man: No Way Home.
However, some Netflix series are more violent than Disney+ usually offers. So the app is being updated in the US so that parents can better decide what their children see.
