WAALWIJK – Neighborhood athletic trainers invite kids from Groups 7 and 8 in Walwik Municipality to a chain of four mountain bike clinics. Clinics are provided by Maikel Govaarts, Dutch MTB 40+ champion. Participation is free, and the number of participants is limited.

Nearby sports coaches Jeroen Stijns and Claire Steijger organize the clinics. Jeroen explains: “Through our GO Cycling programme, we organize cycling activities for all types of target groups throughout the year. For example, a cycling training day for seniors was organized in April, which was a huge success. We also want to allow children to experience how Cycling is fun as a sport. With Loonse & Drunense Duinen as a ‘backyard’, Walwick is of course an ideal starting point for mountain biking!” Michael Govarts will provide clinics. In daily life, Govaarts works as a physical education teacher at Dr. Muller College. He is also a semi-professional mountain biker and cyclocross rider. Several times he became the champion of the Netherlands in his age group. At the moment, he can also call himself the Dutch Cyclo-cross 40+ Champion. Claire, Neighborhood Sports Coach: “We want to introduce kids to all kinds of sports in an accessible way. We do this through our ongoing GO Play Sport after school program and with the Sjors Sportief campaign. These mountain bike clinics are a great addition to the programme.”
