New US aid applications have fallen sharply

(ABM FN-Dow Jones) The number of new claims for unemployment benefits in the US fell sharply in the week ending December 10. Data from the US Department of Labor revealed this on Thursday.

The number of new applications for unemployment benefits fell by 20,000 to 211,000. The figure rose by 1,000 to 231,000 from a week ago.

Economists expect 232,000 new applications.

The four-week rolling average was 227,250 applications. That’s 3,000 less than a week ago.

The number of extended assistance applications in the week ended December 3 was 1.671 million applications, 1,000 more than a week earlier.
