Olympia Harlem coach Tony says goodbye after playoffs: “We’ve got to win one more time”

Olympia Harlem’s softball players will be champions of the Netherlands this afternoon. One win is enough to clinch the title for Harlem. Coach Stanley Toney won all the prizes with Olympia Harlem and faces his last job in North Holland.

Olympia Harlem has almost decided the title race. Currently leading the best-of-five series 2-0. The North Holland girls also had a great season in Europe. Olimpia recently won the European Cup 1, defeating Italian side Forli in the final. So New Zealand Tony’s team is in a great position. However, he defends not underestimating. “Some of the players’ parents and some of the assistants have already bought bottles of champagne. I think it’s more optimistic.”

Four against four

Harlem-Team’s coach is cautious heading into a meeting with the Textown Tigers. “We’ve faced each other eight times this season. We’ve both won four games. We’ve been really evenly matched. It’s going to be an even battle this afternoon. I still have a lot of confidence. If we do what we usually do, we’ll do it. Be champions this afternoon.”

Tony will coach his softball players for the last time this weekend. After three (or maybe four) championships, the successful coach called it quits. “I’m done here. It was good in Harlem, but I need some rest. Plus, my sister just had a baby. I want to hold her in my arms one day. It’s time to go back to New Zealand.”

The other side of the world

“It will be the end of my era, but also the beginning of a new era,” Tony continues. “They will continue to build quietly. I will be following Olympia Harlem closely from the other side of the world next season. We need one more win before then. I want to finish the championship no less.”
