Play4 show “James the Musical” honored with Golden Rose for studio entertainment

“It’s incredible to win this international award,” commented presenter James Cook. “Even in my wildest dreams, I didn’t expect this. It proves once again how much talent we have at home in Flanders. So this rose goes not only to our whole team, but of course to the whole sector that we foster. With this map internationally, it feels like conquering the world.”

In “James the Musical,” the life of a famous Flemish person is turned into a musical. Natalia, Niels Testatspader, Margrid Hermans and Gert Verhulst have already been invited to watch the musical of their lives in the first season. The second season will begin in December.

The format of Decit, SBS and Play4 was chosen by a jury, leaving five programs: “99 – Eine:r schlägt sie alle!” (Ch.1, Germany), “Holy Moly” (Disney/ABC, United States), “I Really Told You” (Channel4, United Kingdom), “Tell The Show” (Proesieben, Germany) and “It’s My Jam ( NBC, USA).

The Dutch format “De traitors”, which had a successful Flemish version at VTM, also won the Golden Rose in the Reality and Factual Entertainment category. In the Flemish version of the project, influencer Jamie-Lee Six, chef Loic van Impe and criminal lawyer Walter Damon had to infiltrate a group of well-known Flemish people as traitors and try to disrupt the group. Jamie-Lee Sixx was finally exposed, leaving the allies as victors.

Since 1961, the Rose d’Or Awards have honored international television and radio programs of originality, creativity and excellence. In the past, “De Mole” (2000), “Benidorm Bastards” (2010) and “What Als?” (2013) have already been awarded. Most recently, in 2018, the One programs “Down the Road” and “Sorry for Everything” won the Golden Rose.
