Prosecutors on Monday closed the last five criminal investigations into sexual harassment and assault by former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. There will not be enough evidence to prosecute Cuomo.
In a statement, County District Attorney Gregory S. Oakes of Oswego County, New York, emphasized that his decision does not pass judgment on Virginia Limiatis, the woman who filed charges against the former governor, “or the extent of the harm she has gone through before her.” . The woman claimed Cuomo grabbed her breasts during a meeting in 2017.
New York Attorney General Letitia James released a report in August last year that found Cuomo sexually assaulted 11 women, including former female employees. The investigation cost him his job. Cuomo has consistently denied these allegations and for a long time refused to resign.
Several other cases against Cuomo have previously been dismissed. Prosecutors concluded that while they believe the women accusing him are credible, there are not sufficient criminal grounds to prosecute.
