‘Perez is an example’
According to Red Bull team principal Christian Horner, Mercedes driver George Russell’s claim that Red Bull did not show its true pace was generous, but not true. Perez showed what was in the car in Australia, according to Horner.
Having a finger-licking Red Bull Formula 1 car this year is now beyond doubt. The competition is looking at the RB19 with some discomfort and Mercedes’ George Russell in particular has already had some striking things to say about it. For example, at the start of the season, Red Bull said it would logically win every race this year, and after the Australian GP, Red Bull didn’t show its true pace. According to the Briton, Red Bull would be ‘just shy’ of the lead by ‘nearly seven tenths of a lap’. Red Bull could delay a bit to avoid the FIA’s intervention.
Red Bull team boss Christian Horner had to laugh a little at Russell’s statements. “Well, very generous of him. He and his team know very well what that lead looks like,” Horner said, according to the official Formula 1 website. Russell’s Reports. Horner says Perez actually inspired the RB19 by racing catch-up in Australia. “Czecho (Pérez; Ed.) didn’t really pull back seven-tenths of a lap because he didn’t want to show it. The field was very close,” Horner said. According to Horner. “Of course there’s always going to be some management (of speed, ed.) in a race. It was a one-stop race and it came pretty quickly, so there was definitely some tire management. That’s it.”
