After Eindhoven failed to stage a Formula E race in the city in recent years, Rotterdam is now trying to bring the electric racing class to the Netherlands.
according to general newspaper A group of enthusiasts will try it. This relates to the Purpose Pole Position (PPP) group. Formula E is interested in racing in the Netherlands, and a delegation from the organization will soon be in town to look at options. The feasibility of the event will be studied in cooperation with the municipality of Rotterdam. This must be done through a study. It should then be clear whether the event is possible, and if so, when. Formula E has yet to approve it. The year 2024 seems to be the oldest, as most of the 2023 calendar in Formula E is already known.
de Vries
Formula E will lose an important brand from 2023: Mercedes. Stoffel Vandoorne and Nyck de Vries, drivers who have been champions over the past two seasons, will bid farewell to the sport from next year. However, there are still a lot of major brands represented in the sport and the racing category is growing in popularity. Robin Frijns is also active in Formula E, which means that two Dutchmen are active in the sport.
Eindhoven
Eindhoven have already been ahead of Rotterdam in recent years and are close to a chance in the Formula E calendar. There was a plan, but there were problems in terms of track and organization. This ultimately ensures that Eindhoven likely won’t be on the calendar in 2023 either. Eindhoven is also looking at out-of-town options, but given the current racing in Formula E (cross-city racing), it’s questionable whether the FIA is impressed. Certainly if the race in Rotterdam is going to pass through the city, Rotterdam seems to have a greater chance.
