Russia wants to join China in space

Russia remains one of the partners of the International Space Station, but this may change. The country is working to strengthen ties with China in space.

Russia comes up with special news. During a press conference of the Russian space agency Roscosmos, Director General Dmitry Rogozin said that he is in talks with China about manned flights to the Chinese space station.

China is working on its own space station

China is busy building a new space station in Tianhe. The first part is already in space, and last Wednesday, the first manned flight from China took place there. From the Gobi Desert, the Shenzhou-12 missile was launched with Nie Hesheng, Liu Beoming and Tang Hongbo. The astronauts, as the Chinese astronauts are called, will stay in Tianhe for three months.

If all goes according to plan, Tianhe will be completed and completed in 2022. The goal is for the space station to be continuously inhabited for at least 10 years. It might even become the lone space station in a while. The future of the International Space Station is not yet clear. Contracts run until 2024 and with the transition from Russia to China, it is possible that the country will also say goodbye to the International Space Station. Then the United States and other countries will have to pay the costs.

However, there is still a problem. The space station is located in a different location from the International Space Station. Russia will then have to modify its launch site, the Vostochny Cosmodrome. Now the Russian Soyuz rocket will have to make a special movement to reach orbit in order to dock with the space station. This movement also consumes a lot of additional fuel. A new coupling system may also need to be developed.

Another option for Russia may be the launch from the European launch pad in French Guiana. Soyuz rockets regularly fly from that place, but these are only flights to carry satellites into space.

Finally, it is also possible to launch China for Russia, but there are other problems with this. Foreign astronauts may need lengthy training to speak Chinese, just as former NASA and European Space Agency astronauts had to learn Russian to go along with the Soyuz.

Anyway, these times promise to be fun times in space. Perhaps a new space performance battle will arise between the United States and China, as was previously the case with Russia.
