the Galaxy S23 Just like its predecessors, it appears in three variants: the S23 with a 6.1-inch display, the 6.6-inch S23+ and the large S23 Ultra with a 6.8-inch display and an S Pen that can be stored in the chassis.
Remarkably, Samsung’s new smartphones are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. Previously, Galaxy S phones in Europe had Samsung’s own Exynos chipset. The new Snapdragon chip delivers 33 percent higher CPU performance and 40 percent better graphics performance.
Phone sales collapsed
The introduction of Samsung’s flagship series is more significant than in previous years, as the South Korean manufacturer has suffered a sharp decline in phone sales in recent months, leading to Historic decline in profit.
Other phone manufacturers are also struggling with it Biggest drop in sales everas inflation and economic expectations push consumers to delay buying new smartphones.
The camera island has disappeared
With the S23, Samsung called it the “camera bump,” the angle on the back where the camera lenses used to be. This design was actually replaced in last year’s S22 Ultra by a design in which the lenses are separately integrated into rings in the chassis. This is now also the case with the S23 and S23+.
Other new Samsung phones will also have a similar design in the near future. As with last year, the Ultra is more angular than the other two.
The S23 and S23 + have the same screen resolution: 1080 x 2340 pixels. The Ultra has a QHD+ display with more pixels: 1440×3088. The new phones have Gorilla Glass 8, which makes the screen less prone to shattering. The screen also has a higher peak brightness (1,750 nits) than it did on last year’s S22 (1,300 nits).
200 megapixel camera
The S23 Ultra has better cameras than the other two S23 models. The device has a 200MP camera and combines the information of all those pixels into a “perfect” pixel. This should result in better 12MP photos. This technology for merging pixels, called pixel binning, is also used by many manufacturers.
Ultra users can also choose to use the full 200MP. This results in images with a resolution of 12,240 x 16,320, which is 30MB per file. Samsung also says it corrects noise from photos in the dark with a new AI algorithm. The other cameras on the back are similar to the S22: a 12MP ultra wide angle camera and a 10MP telephoto camera.
The S23’s selfie camera takes 12-megapixel photos and can shoot at 60 frames per second. Image stabilization during shooting has been improved and video can now have a cinematic effect with 8K video at 30fps.
Shipping and storage
The battery capacity of the three phones is different: the S23 has 3,900 mAh, the Plus model provides 4,700 mAh, and the Ultra has a 5,000 mAh battery. The Plus and Ultra can be charged wired at 45 watts, with the regular model coming in at 25 watts. All three can be charged wirelessly at 15 watts.
The Galaxy S23 is available in 8GB of RAM and 128, 256, and 512GB of storage, and the Plus variant is available with 8GB of RAM and a choice of 256 or 512GB of storage. The S23 Ultra starts with a version with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, but it’s also available with 12GB of RAM and a choice of 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of storage.
The Ultra model also supports real-time ray tracing for more realistic visuals in games. The improved cooling system also ensures that the S23 phones get less hot while gaming.
more expensive than its predecessors
Samsung promises new smartphone buyers four operating system upgrades and five years of security updates. The S23 series is available in black, cream, green and lavender colours.
Prices of S23 smartphones have increased from 100 to 170 euros compared to last year’s S22 models. The S23 is available from €949, the S23+ from €1,199 and the S23 Ultra from €1,399. The most expensive version of the S23 Ultra costs 1,819 euros in the Netherlands.
