Schilder wins bronze with a shooting record at the World Championships in Athletics

Jessica Schilder gives the Dutch athletics team a second medal on day two of the World Championships in Athletics. The 23-year-old athlete from Volendam won the bronze medal in the shot, setting a Dutch record of 19.77 metres. I got that far in two out of six attempts.

American Chase Ealey got the gold with a punch of 20.49. Chinese Olympic champion Lijiao Gong won the silver medal with a record of 20.39.

Schilder is the first Dutch woman to win a World Cup medal by throwing. In the men’s race, Rutger Smith precedes her with a silver in 2005 and a bronze in 2007.

With her height of 19.77 metres, Schilder has moved a little over the 19.68 metres she recently recorded at NK Athletics in Apeldoorn. She achieved her first major international success in March with a bronze medal at the World Indoor Championships in Belgrade. Then it was 19.48 meters.
