The rocket is almost 120 meters tall. It is 10 meters taller than the Saturn V rocket that took people to the moon between 1968 and 1972. The new rocket is twice as tall as the space shuttles and nearly three times taller than the Soyuz rocket that carried Dutch astronaut Andre Kuipers into space.
Starship can be launched on Monday somewhere between 14:00 and 16:30 Dutch time. This is done from SpaceX’s own space base in the US state of Texas, which borders Mexico. The lower part is a 70 meter long super heavy booster, the motors that ensure the rocket takes off. When that job is done, the launcher will splash down in the Gulf of Mexico. A 50-meter starship capsule, then people sit, then flies. It covers the Atlantic Ocean, South Africa, the Indian Ocean, Indonesia and the Pacific Ocean. After an hour and a half and almost a complete circle around the Earth, he will make a controlled landing in the Pacific Ocean near Hawaii.
Big fucking rocket
The mega spaceship has been in the works for years. Musk presented the plans in 2017. The craft was later called the Big Fucking Rocket, which was later renamed the Big Falcon Rocket. In late 2018, SpaceX chose the name Starship. The ship will initially stay close to Earth, but plans to one day go to the Moon and Mars.
It is not yet known when the first manned flight with Starship will take place. The spacecraft is supposed to make a sightseeing tour around the moon and return sometime in the coming years. The seats on the ship were bought by Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa. He goes with him and wants to take DJ Steve Aggie with him.
