Switzerland selected as the host country for the 2025 European Women’s Championship | sports

The next European Women’s Football Championship will be held in Switzerland in 2025. The UEFA Governing Council has preferred Switzerland to three other candidates: France, Poland and a joint ‘bid’ from Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. The intended host cities are Geneva, Zurich, Bern, Basel, Thun, Lucerne, Sion and St. Gallen.

Last year’s European Championship was held in England. Then the English football players won the European title at Wembley, led by national coach Sarina Wegman. Four years ago, Wegman also won the European Championship in his country with the Netherlands. The Lionesses were stuck in the quarter-finals as the defending champions in England.

The Women’s World Cup will be held in Australia and New Zealand next summer. Dutch footballers qualified for this and played in the group against Portugal, Vietnam and the United States.

Along with Germany and Belgium, the Netherlands has applied to host the 2027 World Cup.
