A fire broke out near the bridge between Crimea and mainland Russia last night. The governor of that region, Veniamin Kondratyev, reported on Telegram that a fuel depot was on fire in the Russian village of Volna. Firefighters are trying to prevent the fire from spreading further.
The cause of the fire is not yet known. On Saturday, at least four oil storage tanks caught fire in the port of Sevastopol, Crimea’s largest city. According to the Russian authorities, the fire started after a drone attack.
Ukraine has almost never publicly claimed responsibility for attacks in Russia or on Russian-controlled territory. However, it is very likely that Ukraine has struck targets in Crimea several times in the past year. especially The attack on the Crimean Bridge in October, which Ukraine, by the way, was not officially claimed, was remarkable. With these types of attacks, Ukraine wants to make it more difficult for Russia to use Crimea as a base for an invasion of Ukraine.
