Tesla Closes to Deal to Build New Factory in Indonesia | Economie

The discussions also talk about multiple facilities in Indonesia, which support different parts of Tesla’s manufacturing process and supply chain. Indonesian President Joko Widodo said last year that he would like to see Tesla build a car factory in his country. Widodo also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk to discuss the plant.

Indonesia is already a major supplier of nickel for use in electric car batteries for Tesla. The country signed a $5 billion contract with Tesla in August to supply nickel.
Sources say it is not certain that a final agreement will be made and therefore it is still uncertain whether the Indonesian plant will actually be built.

It could be Tesla’s third factory outside the United States. The company also has factories near Shanghai in China and near Berlin. In the United States, the group has factories in Fremont, California, and Austin, Texas.

Musk said he may eventually have as many as 10 to 12 factories around the world. It is also said that Tesla is in talks to build a factory in Mexico.
