In the draw for the quarter-finals, Belgium were paired with the other group’s 1st or 2nd seed Australia or Canada. Australia topped the World Cup’s Belgian Gates team.
Australia started the World Cup with a loss to France, but won their next 4 matches. A win over Japan on the final day and France’s loss against European champions Serbia saw the Australian women climb to 1st place in their group, beating Canada.
The quarter-final between Australia and Belgium will take place on Thursday at 12:30 pm Belgium time. Other conflicts: Serbia-US, Puerto Rico-Canada and China-France. No. 1 and 2 of the same group cannot meet in the semi-finals. A fight between the 2 group winners is only possible in the final.
