The Dutch national team made an excellent start to the CP World Cup in Salou, Spain. The Orange team beat Venezuela 1-0.

Thus, Jouster goalkeeper Stefan Boersma could look back on a successful show. He kept two clean sheets against seven South Americans.

CP soccer is played by soccer players who have a movement problem as a result of brain damage. The damage is usually caused by birth trauma (cerebral palsy). The game is played seven vs seven on a smaller football field (75m x 55m) than usual, and the target is also smaller (5m x 2m).

Boersma, a SC Joure player, is the only Friesian in the Orange selection. The Netherlands, on Thursday morning, awaits the group match against Canada, and England will be the opponent on Saturday.

Deaf team

The Dutch deaf team – with captain Geert-Jan Roelofsen of Kollumerpomp – lost their first match at the Deaflympic Games. In Brazil’s Caxias do Sol, Iran was very strong 4-0. Because of the heavy rain, the field was almost unplayable, and it was almost impossible to collect on the ground.

The Netherlands play the second match in the group against the host country on Wednesday and will also meet with Cameroon and Italy. The two largest nations qualify for the quarter-finals.
