Fieldlab events collected enough data to be able to safely organize events. It appears that with the right measures it can visit at least fifty percent of the capacity. The research chain of events is coming to an end. The organization said the final word is now left to politics.
“After this set of events, we can make a very good model. Then there is enough knowledge of these types of events,” lead researcher Andreas Foss tells De Telegraaf. The Infection Prevention Professor, who is also a member of OMT, is proud of what has been achieved in studies during dance events, concerts, football matches, conferences and sporting competitions.
“What we’re doing is research. About what’s possible, it’s up to politicians to take advantage of that. To add meaning after that:” Hugo de Jong also said during Thursday’s debate that he’s positive about Fieldlab. Don’t let people do your research if you don’t intend to at least look at it seriously. ”
Make more possible
Fieldlab would have preferred to start the search early and organize test events in November, but at the time they did not dare to do so. A conference-style experiment was held for the first time in February, followed by a series of tests. The aim was to investigate how large public events continue, despite the pandemic, for example by testing the dynamics of and influencing visitors. In other words: how accessibility tests can make society more potential.
Research results have now been published for the first two types of events – those in conference halls, theater and football stadiums. Next week, the results of outdoor and indoor concerts will follow. This data is still confidential, but Fieldlab Events is convinced that theaters, conferences and sporting events can be visited with at least fifty percent of the capacity thanks to the right measures. OMT is not against this, as it has shown in recent weeks.
“The more data, the more robust your model is. The better your model, the better your predictions. We are now ready to test alternative systems. We remove weaknesses and reinforce the strengths. That’s the nice thing, further improving the system,” says Voss.
Everything aims to make policy. Results were expected within three weeks, and it was then called Utopia. “I think we’ve done a lot, and very quickly.”
This is also evident from foreign interest. Fieldlab events are followed all over the world. Voss is now in contact with Denmark, Belgium, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and Italy to hold similar research events. We are in the forefront, and that means the politicians have shown courage. Other countries have not yet started. ”
However, there has been a lot of criticism for Fieldlab, especially in recent weeks. This was mainly because non-scientific experimental events, which collectively cost nearly a billion euros, were confused with the events of the research. People at Fieldlab were threatened and insulted. Meanwhile, a radio event 538 on King’s Day in Breda has been canceled, as public order may be at stake.
This weekend, there were two Fieldlabs: the Raccoon Concert with 3,500 visitors and the so-called Mud Masters, where thousands of fanatics battled through the mud. A running event in his chant, a song festival, and a cabaret night will follow later. This ends the series of research. New events are not in planning.
In other words: it is now up to politicians to shape the test community thanks to the results. Voss: “This will be a temporary thing. We’ll leave the lockdown first next summer, then winter to make sure we’re unlikely to go into lockdown. Then only in the next pandemic, which I’m afraid it won’t take a hundred years,” Voss says.
Permissibility of vaccination
However, it makes an important comment on the local use of vaccination permissibility. Anti-Coronavirus Minister Hugo de Jong suggested in a letter to Parliament on Tuesday that people no longer need to be tested after an injection to go to an event or attraction.
“Vaccines still have a 60 percent chance of carrying the virus without becoming seriously ill. So mixing these people with tested people is dangerous. Because they are still at risk of infection. It can only be done safely if the vast majority of the Netherlands are injected.” .
Others criticize the testing community, for example because they fear their privacy or believe that access through testing restricts freedom, rather than increases their options. “Whether people want it or not, that’s their choice. Everyone has their own opinions and choices, but don’t take them away from others. Give each other that freedom.”
