The 2021 road season begins on Wednesday. In New Zealand, the New Zealand Bicycle Classic (UCI 2.2) is on display, with home riders initially the only five-day stage race in the Wellington region.

Several Australian tournaments with international appearances, including Tour Down Under and Cadell Evans Great Ocean Road Race, have been canceled for some time. In the form of the Santos cycling form for Tour Down Under, a solution has been found with national teams and riders from their home country.

The same goes for the New Zealand bicycle classic, which always focuses more on riders coming from Oceania during the summer months of the Southern Hemisphere. In the last ten years, the overall success has gone six times for home riding and four times for Australians. Overall winners include future pros George Bennett (2011), Jay McCarthy (2012), Nathan Earley (2013) and Ben O’Connor (2016).
