This is the Paralympics and these athletes have a chance to win a gold medal

Since not everyone has the same disability, athletes are divided into classes. This is to ensure that the restriction affects the outcome of the competition as little as possible. The system is controversial because it excludes athletes and is very beneficial to others who end up in an unsuitable category. In most cases, the lower the number, the greater the disability.

medals

In total, there are 537 medals to be won at these 16th Paralympic Games in 22 sports. The last match is on September 5th. Last year, the Netherlands won a record number of medals at the Paralympic Games: 17 gold, 19 silver and 26 bronze. This year, 72 Dutch athletes will compete for a gold, silver or bronze medal.

During the opening ceremony, cyclist and triathlete Getzi Platt and athlete Fleur Young carried the flag of the Netherlands. Watch them during these games: they have a good chance of winning a medal.
