Donald Trump is appealing the decision in a civil case involving sexual assault of a woman. The former President of the United States has to pay her more than 4.5 million euros for assault and defamation, but he does not agree.
Trump filed appeals with a New York court on Thursday. On Tuesday, a jury found him guilty of sexual assault and defamation of writer E. Jean Carroll. Because it is a civil case, the former president has not been convicted of a crime and has not been sentenced to prison.
The jury found it proved that Trump assaulted the author in a department store fitting room in the 1990s. Then, according to the jury, he damaged her reputation by claiming she made it all up.
Trump’s lawyers announced immediately after the verdict that their client would likely appeal. Two days later, the former president put his money where his mouth was.
Trump said in an interview with CNN Back to Carol. “I swear on my children, which I never do: I have no idea who this woman is.” He also described her as “crazy”.
Carroll said after the interview that she is considering filing another defamation lawsuit against Trump.
