Example USA vs Holland

It wasn’t a perfect start for the American women at the Olympics, as they advanced 1-1-1 in team play and advanced to the playoffs by goal difference. The Americans failed to come out ahead and went into a 0-0 defensive match against Australia to take the lead.

“It was a tactical decision by Flatko for us to switch more conservatively and let them get really impatient and play for a long time and bring him back to us,” Alex Morgan said. “In the end I feel like both teams have settled in a bit and it’s game to play a professional match and move on. So now we are looking forward to the quarter-finals.”

It was not pleasant, but with the American coach Vlatko Andonovsky it worked.

He said: They believe in their system. “They believe in what they do. They are sometimes solid, which makes them as good as they are. Their system works over and over in different games.”

But their first match in the knockout stage will not be easy as the defending champions and runners-up Holland face Europe in the 2019 World Cup. The team achieved a huge goal difference of 21-8 in the group stage with a 8-2 victory over China and a 10-3 victory over China Zambia.

“Our mentality and our goal don’t change,” said American goalkeeper Alyssa Naher. “No matter what happens, our goal is to win. Every time we play, whether it’s a friendly match or a world championship, whether it’s 11 vs 11 inside the team. [game]We want to win.

“That’s what we prepare for, to put ourselves in the best position to make it happen.”
