Van de Zandschol and the Greek velodrome start in Paris against the heats

Botic van de Zandschulp and Tallon Grepeer both start Roland Garros with a match against a qualifier. The qualifying tournament will run until Friday, and only world numbers 30 and 39 will hear who their opponents are after that.

In the event that Van de Zandsholb wins, he will meet Serbian Dusan Lajovic or Zhang Zizhen from China in the second round. The Greek track will compete with 13th-place finisher Paul Hubert Hurkacz or Belgian David Goffin if he wins.

The draw also showed that Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic will meet in the semi-finals, if the leaders and favorites manage to survive all the previous rounds. Djokovic, the 22-time Grand Slam champion, starts with a match against American Aleksander Kovacevich. Qualifiers await first the Spanish Alcaraz No. 1 in the world. Defending champion Rafael Nadal is not there in Paris due to a thigh injury.

Jesper de Jong could have qualified for the main draw on Thursday, but he lost in three sets to Serbian Hamed Medjedovic in the final round of qualifying. He became 0-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Among the women, Poland’s Iga Swiatek will face Spain’s Kristina Buxa in the opening round. Second seed Aryna Sabalenka is paired with Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk.

Former Grand Slam champion Canadian Bianca Andreescu and Canadian Victoria Azarenka of Belarus will play each other in the first round, as well as Czech Karolina Pliskova and American Sloane Stephens.

They play Arantxa Rus in the final round of the playoffs on Friday. She will compete with Japan’s Honoka Uchiyama.

The main tournament for the second major championship of the year begins on Sunday.
