Water polo players into the World Cup semi-finals, Japan eliminates favorites United States

Contrary to expectations, the Japanese managed to eliminate the Olympic world champions and the United States during the Water Polo World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan. The team of Dutch coach Eva Dodissis will compete for a medal in this tournament, as happened a year ago in Hungary. Then bronze.

“With America not winning a World Series, we all want to be next,” said player Vivian Sevenic. “Now it’s about who can better control the nerves and who can continue to play their own game. It will be a very nice match against Italy with a lot of passion, temperament and aggression.”

During the Swimming World Championships, also being held in Fukuoka, swimmer Marit Steenbergen finished seventh in her first individual final at the World Long Course Championships yesterday. Her final time of 2:11.89 minutes in the 200-meter individual medley was disappointing. In the semi-final battle, the national record holder ran 2:09.30 on Sunday.

Just like in the short track, the world title went to American Kate Douglas: 2:07.17. There will be no Dutch contribution to the World Cup finals on Monday. Tes Schouten (100 school), Maaike de Waard and Kira Toussaint (100 return) were stuck in the semifinals.
