WhatsApp Finally Possibility Added for desktop voice and video calls. You can now use the WhatsApp desktop application to call your contacts from your computer.
WhatsApp (video) connection to your computer
You can use WhatsApp in various ways, on your phone, in your browser (WhatsApp Web), and as an app on your Windows PC or Mac. WhatsApp has now made (video) calling possible for the latter category. This way you can call your family, friends, and colleagues from your computer. You can also video call them.
To do this, you first need a number of things:
- The latest version of WhatsApp on your PC or Mac, Download here
- Windows 10 version 1903 64-bit or later / macOS 10.13 or later
- Microphone and camera
- An internet connection on your phone and computer (your phone is used to place the call)
If that’s fine, then give WhatsApp permission to access your computer’s microphone and camera. WhatsApp needs a computer microphone for making calls and a camera for video calls. Now you can call a contact. You can do this via the buttons on the top-right of the chat window. The camera is for video calling and the speaker is for voice calls.
During a speech call, you can set your microphone across the three dots and attach it to the red button.
During video calls, a separate window will appear and you can drag that window to another location. So you can open a website or do something else on your computer without ending the video call. Also here you can set the microphone or camera via the three dots and end the call via the red end button.
Contact groups
WhatsApp audio and video calls are end-to-end encrypted so WhatsApp cannot hear or see them. This also applies to conversations that you have on your computer. Unfortunately, it is not possible to make (video) calls to multiple people, which is possible with The app for phones. The platform indicates that this will be possible in the future.
Are you going to start making WhatsApp video calls via laptop or pc? Or would you prefer to use a different application? Let us know in the comments at the bottom of this article.
