World champion Messi was named Player of the Year

Lionel Messi of Paris Saint-Germain has been named FIFA’s Player of the Year. It happened on Monday night during a party in Paris. Karim Benzema (Real Madrid) and Kylian Mbappe (Paris Saint-Germain) were the other two candidates.

At the end of last year, Messi became the world champion with Argentina in Qatar. France won the final, which was played with Mbappe. The Frenchman was the tournament’s top scorer. With Paris Saint-Germain, Messi and Mbappe won the French League title and the French Super Cup.

Benzema won the Champions League title, the European Super Cup and the Spanish national title in 2022. The French Real Madrid striker missed the World Cup due to injury. In October, France Football named him the best footballer of the past season.

The best goalkeeper and coach is also Argentine

And Aston Villa’s Argentine Emiliano Martinez, who also played a leading role in the World Cup, was named the best goalkeeper. The best coach of the year was Lionel Scaloni, the coach of the Argentina national team.

Among the women, Spain’s Alexia Botelas took home the Women’s Player of the Year award. She plays soccer in Barcelona and was selected for the same award last year.

Beth Mead (England) and Alex Morgan (USA) were the other nominees.
